Cultural route declared World Heritage
“Cities have the capacity to provide something for everyone, just because, and only when, they are created for the whole world.”
Jane Jacobs
From the Roman archaeological site of Tarraco, we visit the most representative monuments of the town, highlighted by UNESCO with this recognition in 2000.
You can get there in means of transport and access from anywhere in Spain, for example:
– Arriving from Barcelona you have a 5 hour tour that you can extend to other towns such as Sitges.
-In car, you have the Saavedra Parking with 420 seats.
-In train / AVE.
With a detailed route you can get to know first hand its people, corners, monuments, bars and nightlife, while you walk around Tarragona.
Currently the Roman amphitheater is the site of greatest tourist influx and is next to the sea, but you can not miss the aqueduct called del Puente del Diablo.
The whole Roman city built at the beginning of the second century has its own inclination of the terrain that served as the setting for the fights and confrontations of the gladiators, as well as the martyrdom of the Christians.
In this venue the capacity is 14,000 spectators and you can see beautiful views of the sea and the city.
Other places we recommend are the Archbishop’s Tower, the bastion of San Domènec, the statue of Caesar Augustus and the Minerva tower, as well as the statues of Romulus and Remus.
Finally, you can discover the Portal de San Antonio, the National Archaeological Museum and the spectacular Roman Circus with its stands, where the famous car races were organized.
Do not forget the Praetorian Tower with views of the city’s countryside and the old city, as well as the amphitheater or the aqueduct.
From May 05 to May 19 you can enjoy the Tarraco Viva festival, more information at https://www.tarracoviva.com/actividad
